APSU to host Maynard Family Naming Celebration on Oct. 14

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University will host the Maynard Family Naming Celebration at 10 a.m. at Fortera Stadium on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022.
“The Austin Peay community is excited to honor Joe and Cathi Maynard for their transformative gift made to the APSU Department of Athletics,” APSU President Mike Licari said. “Their recent $15 million pledge is the largest single gift in University history, and we are proud that the Joe and Cathi Maynard Family Athletics Complex will commemorate the generous commitment this family has made to our campus community.”
Named Austin Peay's 2020 Philanthropists of the Year, Joe and Cathi Maynard have given generously to the University since 2017, including improvements to the baseball field – now named Joe Maynard Field – and the softball park – known as Cathi Maynard Park.
The Maynard family can be seen at many University and athletic events throughout the year, and they are active in the Clarksville community. They have provided APSU with sponsorship opportunities with their business, ECHO Power Engineering, and they have supported multiple academic areas through the establishment of the Joe and Cathi Maynard Family Fund of Excellence. They also have made significant gifts to create the Dr. Joe E. Maynard, Sr. Education Endowment, the George J. Reed, Sr. Veterans Scholarship Endowment, and the JoAnn and Frank Hindsley Veterans Endowment.
“We are excited to publicly celebrate and recognize Joe and Cathi Maynard for their impressive contributions to Austin Peay and many of our sports programs and academic initiatives,” APSU Vice President for Alumni, Engagement and Philanthropy Kris Phillips said.
Mr. Maynard retired from the U.S. Army, having spent most of his career as a prime power production specialist with the Corps of Engineers. In that position, he traveled the world, providing critical infrastructure to developing nations. He met Mrs. Maynard while serving in the military. She also served in the U.S. Army, as did several other family members.
Mr. Maynard is an owner of ECHO Power Engineering and CEO of JCM Management. Mr. And Mrs. Maynard are co-owners of the Top Fuel NHRA Maynard Family Racing Team, CraftPoint Concepts custom millwork and the Trio Hospitality Group.
“The naming of the Joe and Cathi Maynard Family Athletics Complex will be a reminder to our Governors fans, students, faculty, staff and alumni of the gratitude we have for the Maynard family and their generosity,” APSU Vice President and Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison said. “We are thrilled that our athletics facilities will honor their dedication to making a brighter future for our student-athletes and our entire campus.”
